WikiMasters Guide: Rules, Rarity, Duels and Meta
WikiMasters is a free browser card game where every card is a French Wikipedia article. You open packs of 5, rarity comes from page views, and your cards fight in quiz duels about their own articles. This English guide covers the rules, the rarities, the duel meta, the cost and the app, as of October 2026.
What WikiMasters is
WikiMasters launched in March 2026, reports Next. It is made by Naïm Ouellet, a young self-taught developer from Québec, who started it as a weekend project (Radio-Canada, Clubic). It took off in September 2026, after French streamers such as ZeratoR and Anyme played it around the ZEvent charity stream, says Clubic. Its daily players went from about 10,000 to over 200,000, according to La Libre.
The cards come from French Wikipedia, about 2.7 million articles (Next). The whole game is in French. You need an account, and you must be 18 or older (terms).
Packs
A pack of 5 cards comes every 10 minutes, and up to 10 wait for you. Cards are revealed from the lowest rarity to the highest (Echoes of Geeks). Pro members get a pack every 3 minutes instead.
Rarity and shiny cards
There are six rarities, named in French on the site. Each is set by the article's views in a month (Echoes of Geeks):
- Commun (C): under 50 views
- Peu commun (PC): 50 or more
- Rare (R): 250 or more
- Super rare (SR): 1,000 or more
- Ultra rare (UR): 5,000 or more
- Légendaire (L): 20,000 or more
On 15 October 2026, Lexicodex counted 2,779,316 cards: 1,996,056 Commun, about 72%, and only 1,672 Légendaire. The game does not publish drop rates per pack.
Shiny cards: according to WikiCollector's guide, a Légendaire has a 1% chance to come out shiny, with a black tint instead of gold. We found no other source for that number.
Rarity is read when you pull the card. An article in the news can come out rarer than usual, WikiCollector's rarity guide notes.
Attack and defense
The official line: an article's readership sets its rarity, its length its attack, its quality its defense. So a long article hits hard, and a well-written one holds out.
Wikipedia, as playing cards.
No account needed. By playing, you confirm you're 13 or older and agree to the Terms of use.
How duels work
Duels are quizzes. The rules, from Echoes of Geeks and Manette Actu:
- You challenge a friend. Each side picks 3 cards.
- Your starting HP is the sum of your 3 cards' defense.
- On your turn, you pick one of your cards to attack. Your opponent answers a multiple-choice quiz on that card's article.
- Damage = the card's attack × the share of wrong answers. With 6,000 attack and 2 wrong answers out of 4, you deal 3,000.
- Each card attacks once per duel. A duel ends at 0 HP; otherwise the side with the higher share of its HP left wins.
- You get 3 free duels a day. Pro gives more (Next).
The meta: what wins duels
No tier list of duel cards exists, as of October 2026. If you see one, it's someone's opinion, not data. What wins comes straight from the rules:
- Attack with what your opponent doesn't know. Damage only goes through on wrong answers. A huge attack on a topic everyone knows, like the Moon (a Légendaire, per Next), can deal nothing. A long article on a niche subject is the dangerous one.
- Know your opponent's topics. You defend by answering questions about their cards. "A strong attack is not enough, you need to know the card's subject," writes Manette Actu.
- Defense counts as much as attack. Your HP is the sum of your three cards' defense. Three glass cannons leave you with a small pool.
- Rarity isn't everything. A Rare with a hard article can outscore a Légendaire whose subject is famous. Fame sets rarity; it doesn't make a card hard to answer.
- Three shots, three duels. Each card attacks once, and you only get 3 free duels a day. Pick the trio before you challenge, not after.
Ranking, guilds and the economy
The site lists guilds that climb a ranking together, a global leaderboard, achievements, friends with a chat and regular contests (WikiMasters). The leaderboard is only visible with an account, per WikiCollector's guide. We found no official rule for how guild points are counted.
The currency is the WikiBidou. Discarding a card gives 1, whatever its rarity (Clubic). The market runs on auctions, you can trade duplicates, and an alert tells you when a card you want goes on sale (Presse-citron). WikiBidous have no money value and can't be cashed out (terms).
Economy tips that hold up:
- Discard junk: it's your steady income.
- Set alerts and watch auctions for bargains.
- Demand matters as much as rarity. Mythology cards went up after the film The Odyssey came out in France in July, Clubic noticed.
- Achievements pay WikiBidous too: Rotek counted 51 of them.
Cost and app
WikiMasters is free to play. As of October 2026, Pro costs CAD 9.99 a month: packs more often, rarer pulls, more duels and auctions a day, and market stats. WikiBidous sell at 2,500 for CAD 4.99 (Next, Clubic).
There is no store app as of mid-October 2026: it runs in the browser. A native app and other languages are planned for once the game is stable (Next, Radio-Canada).

WikiMasters does duels, guilds and a big French community better: if you want to fight with your cards in French, it's the one. Wiki67 is for collecting, trading and the English encyclopedia. Wikipedia card games compared puts all four games side by side, and the Wikipedia card game page explains Wiki67 in full. French reader? Read le guide WikiMasters.
